Updating my GAME Plan

The goals of my GAME plan are: “Demonstrate fluency in technology systems and the transfer of current knowledge to new technologies and situations” and “Promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness” (International Society for Technology in Education, 2008). The resources and information I will need to meet these goals are in regard to technology integration in the classroom. I could use any resources such as text books, websites, colleagues and experts in the area of technology integration as resources and for information. Basically anyone or anything that can provide me with different methods to apply technology in a classroom is a resource for me for meeting this goal. I intend on learning about and meeting this goal through experimentation and self-directed learning. I will gather information and work on applying it myself. Once I feel comfortable with a new form of technology I will work towards integrating it into daily lessons.

So far I have begun gathering information about the use of technology in classrooms. Through taking this course as well as previous courses and talking to colleagues I have began to come up with some exciting and new ideas. In order to meet the next part of my goal I will have to start experimenting with these ideas and becoming comfortable with the new technology.

  1. Jasmin,
I am so glad you see a value in technology integration and you are taking necessary steps in meeting your goals. The wide range of resources will be helpful in your journey. Experimentation sometimes can be the best teacher. Many times I learn best that way. What are some of the tools you would you like to see proficiency in?

Throughout the courses there has been a wealth of resources shared. Make sure that sometimes you just hold your breath and jump into the technology pool. It can be scary, but once you take that leap you will wonder what you ever did before. To help you, I thought I would share with you some online resources: These are some great Websites with a wealth of information to help you with technology integration. 2. Jasmin,
I completely understand your feeling of having to "experiment" with technology before introducing it to your students. I feel the same way. However, once my co-teacher was absent and the media specialist delivered her reserved laptops. The students were begging to use them as my co-teacher had planned a writing lesson with them. I agreed to try but let the students know that I had never used an iPad! You would be surprised at how easy it was. We used a program called Toontastic where students chose characters, setting, problem and solution for their story. It was a step by step process and I was amazed at how well the students were able to navigate it. They actually did better than I did. I am thankful for this experience as it took some of the fear out of the unknown. As Katie said above "experimentation can be the best teacher".

  3. Jasmin,
The technology skills that I find the most transferrable are critical thinking and collaboration skills. I originally had my students begin developing these skills by conducting simple searches to answer questions (making sure they cited their sources of course). We repeated this process with different subjects, partners, and difficulty of questions. This evolved into students asking their own questions to accomplish more complex tasks. Now my students are working on taking their research to create a multimedia presentation. It might be as simple as VoiceThread or as complex PowerPoint but the students are critically thinking and collaborating how they will share findings in a clear, creative manner. Supporting my students has taking much practice and required much backward planning on my part but I feel as though I can now give my students a topic and they can work together to discover and create what they need to. I hope you are able to find the same success! Good luck!

    :) Katie Weichert
